Welcome To Hobart
Whether you arrived intentionally or through spontaneous dimensional collapse, welcome.
The Village of Hobart, Ohio is a webcomic and fictional municipality maintained weekly by one person with a drawing tablet and poor judgment. New episodes every Sunday. Complaints may be directed to Facebook.
Start at the beginning or jump in wherever the town lets you.
Step 1: Verify Residency
If you woke up anywhere between the River and Court Street, congratulations: you are now legally considered a resident. Proof of residence may include:
- A receipt from Punky’s Pizza
- An overdue notice from the Hobart Municipal Utilities Commission
- Physical possession of a raccoon (alive or taxidermied)
Step 2: Meet Your Civic Obligations
New residents must register with:
- Office of Communications and Civic Broadcasting – for rumor clearance
- Scheduling & Adjournment Review Committee – only required if meetings do not end
- Public Enthusiasm Board – applications processed in triplicate only
Most forms are unavailable online. Please shout your name into the nearest storm drain at dusk.
Step 3: Learn the Local Customs
- All major holidays are observed twice: once, and then again, just to be sure
- Do not feed the Midnight Sanitation Crew
- PossumFest attendance is mandatory but enthusiasm is optional
Step 4: Explore the OuterNet
The Village maintains a collection of official and semi-official websites known collectively as the OuterNet. Each one is a real, functioning website built for a fictional institution. They don’t explain themselves.
You may safely browse (probably):
- Village of Hobart – Municipal government. Public notices, departmental memos, and documents that raise more questions than they answer.
- The Hobart Herald – The newspaper of record since 1893. Follow a story long enough and it leads somewhere else.
- PAL-TV – Public access television. Programming schedules, civic notices, and the occasional unexplained broadcast.
- The Shop – Merchandise from the Village and its institutions. Real products. Fictional origin.
There are others. You’ll find them.
